Winter will be here before you know it. Here’s some ideas that will allow you to survive it in style.
- Inspect interiors. Keep warm air in and drafts out by sealing cracks around windows and doors.
- Inspect exteriors, too. Clean the gutters and make sure water’s draining properly. Replace any broken or warped roof shingles.
- Check appliances. Make sure that heaters and furnaces are running efficiently, and replace air filters. Schedule annual service appointments if necessary.
- Clean fireplaces. Call a chimney sweep to remove any soot, or have the wiring checked if yours are electric. Consider replacing aging fireplace doors.
- Inspect insulation. If any homes or buildings tend to be chilly, have a contractor or inspector take a look at the insulation and consider adding more.
- Trim landscaping. Prune unhealthy limbs that could fall on roofs or cars during winter storms.
